Wake Up UJ
5 Nov, 2012

So the president of the University of Jordan has finally spoken to the public today saying that dismissing the dean of the faculty of Ats has nothing to do with the video her females students did on harassment on campus; the one that she approved. He also expressed how frustrated he is to learn about the fuzz the media has made out of it.

Regardless!! The video that drove an international attention to the harassment issue not only in Jordan but also in different Arab countries has shown the contradiction this society lives. I personally discussed the video with co-workers and friends; males and females and I still can’t believe those who claimed that these girls with the signs that covered their faces that showed words and comments girls get on the street are calling for vice! I beg your pardon??? Where do these words come from? Who is calling for vice here exactly?

For those who found the video disgusting and flagrant: Could you please for one time in your life put yourself in different shoes and see the other side of the story? You’re saying that the expressions on the signs the girls held made you disgusted and agitated? Perfect! Because this is how we feel when a “male”throws words like that.

And UJ, there is a lot to deal with!  Mr. President you have many professors on your campus who harass their female students whether physically or verbally every day. Where is the secure academic environment we promise our students with? If there is one thing this video shows me, it’s not how unfairly Dr. Quawas was treated regarding the matter -if this video was behind it- but rather how unfair our society is towards this simple right of women to go on street or to class fearless.
